Cut.Tie.Repeat. is an interactive performance piece that was conceived in collaboration with illustrator, Ashley Mistriel. Together we installed a portrait of a man and woman on parallel walls with thread, glue stick, and bank pins. Each string was connected from one face to the other on opposite sides of the space.
The performance began when we invited the viewers to cut the thread and tie the loose ends back together. This caused the string to pull off the wall and unravel the images as people continued to cut and tie the thread. Approximately 100 people participated in the work which brought a lot of energy and chatting which filled the room. There was only one pair of scissors which participants had to pass around so it was very much of a shared experience between the individual participants. Some people pulled the string gently and some yanked it hard! The finished product was a tangled mess of thread hanging between two dilapidated portraits of a man and woman.
